Person of the Week
So what's up with the this weather? Can you believe it? All over the country, wintertime temperatures are higher, and snowfalls totals are lower. What's up with that?
I hate to be a nervous Norvis, but there are a couple things that worry me about this whole thing. The first is, what happens if and when the weather gods wake up ("I'm Mr. Heat Miser, whatever I touch, starts to melt in my clutch." If you know what show that comes from, you have way too much time on your hands.) and decide to exact revenge and we find cold, snow and ice into April and May.
Remember the movie The Day After Tomorrow? That's the other thing that me concerned. As you may remember, the movie was about this global warming hurricane blizzard weather thing, that paralyzes the world? And Dennis Quaid, the hero of the story, while braving temperatures of -100, walks from Philadelphia to New York to save his son, Jake Gyllenhaal. There should have been an Oscar there somewhere.
Anyway that movie still gives me nightmares. What gets me through the night, is the thought that every day in January that is nice and livable, is one day closer to spring. As long as it doesn't snow on Memorial Day, we may be okay.
Because of our above average winter that most of us are experiencing, we probably should make our Person of the Week someone who tells (or told us. He's semi-retired now) us the weather story, good or bad, with a smile on his face. How about Willard Scott, who for 30 years on the Today Show, let us know when we needed an umbrella, or if a sweater was necessary. And he also kept us updated when someone had a milestone birthday. ("Happy Birthday to Hazel Johnson of North Platte, Nebraska, who turned 100 years old yesterday, and still bakes a mean cherry pie. Now back to you Jane and Bryant."). Thanks Willard, and lets keep the good news coming.
Enjoy the weather, and stop back Sunday for another Top Ten List.
We will talk soon
Jeff
